HMWPIB is the ONLY fuel blending component verified by the California Air Resources Board as a Diesel Emission Control Strategy (DECS) to be both a Level 1 control strategy for PM emissions from diesel engines and to reduce the carbon footprint caused by diesel engines. (Commercial product Viscon)

Sample Applications

Bakersfield, CA, Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS). A 6-month 2009 state-funded program reported significant reductions in smoke and fuel use (-9%) using HMWPIB (Viscon) in diesel school bus fleet. The KCSOS system continues to use HMWPIB today.
Booth Bay City Department of Public Works, Booth Bay, ME. 6.6 liter GMC Duamax engine in a city public works pickup truck was operated with HMWPIB. The Public Works Department reported a 28% increase in miles per gallon.
Downeast Energy, Inc. Brunswick, ME. 245 HP International DT466 engine in a propane delivery truck was operated with HMWPIB. The energy company reported a 40% increase in mpg in the 2005 model engine designed to meet government requirements for reducing exhaust emissions.
US Army National Training Center (NTC), Fort Irwin, CA. 500 HP Detroit Diesel two-cycle engine in US Army Heavy Equipment Transporter was field tested with HMWPIB for prevention of engine overheating. NTC reported engine temperature and ~25% reduction in fuel consumption.
Mesilla Valley Transport, Las Cruces, NM. 500 HP Caterpillar 3406 E engine in Kenworth tractor operating with HMWPIB had fuel consumption recorded every 2 weeks for 1 year. Compared with the previous baseline, mpg increased 31%.
Maine Central Railroad/Guilford , Brunswick, ME. A 2000 HP EMD 645 two-cycle railroad locomotive engine with HMWPIB run in tandem with identical locomotive fueled with untreated diesel fuel. The HMWPIB engine consumed 30% less fuel.
Electrical Generation Plant, Pacasmayo, Peru. 2000 HP Sulzer two-cycle engine fueled with residual # 6 fuel oil in a power plant was operated with HMWPIB, producing a 21% reduction in fuel consumption.

Cleaner Diesel/Biodiesel

Olson Ecologic testing laboratories of Fullerton, CA, conducted a series of exhaust emissions tests from a late-model over-the-road diesel engine using a high aromatics (33%) diesel fuel with and without Viscon treatment.  The test program included a 20% biodiesel blend in the high aromatics diesel treated with Viscon.  The test was done in accordance with U.S. EPA’s Heavy Duty Transient Test Protocol.  The test program was audited by an independent agent appointed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  Upon review of the test results by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Viscon was approved for use in the TxLED program; i.e., authority granted by the TCEQ to Viscon California, LLC, to provide Viscon for the purpose of achieving state-mandated NOx reductions.

Cleaner School Buses

Placer Hills Joint Unified High School District, Placer County, CA, participated in an emissions- reduction program supported by the California Placer County Air District. Results shown here show diesel exhaust smoke opacity readings for individual school buses year on year, before and after HMWPIB treatment. Significant reductions in were measured: between 45% and 96%. (Testing performed on CARB-approved certified Red Mountain diesel smoke opacity tester.)

 
...Viscon may be part of our solution to solving the never-ending problems we have with our Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF)....We used data compiled from our GPS Insight System and Don Holt DPF Filter Sales and Cleaning comparing two 2008 Peterbilt trucks with Caterpillar C-15 engines....the results were very encouraging....[after ~40,000 miles] the Diesel Particulate filter on [treated] Truck #51 weighed 40% less than [untreated] Truck #50... Viscon appears to be a potential solution to reducing expenses related to DPFs.
